That like all Asari purebloods, or at least those we’ve been introduced to, have blue eyes, freckles, and no markings?

And yes, this means Samara was a pureblood herself (which I can’t remember if it was ever actually mentioned), but that would probably somewhat explain why ALL three of her daughters were Ardat-Yakshis.  Just sayin’.

Samara outright says that she’s a pureblood and that only purebloods can be Ardat-Yakshi (“The condition only exists in purebloods like myself. Perhaps that is the root of the stigma concerning asari-exclusive pairings.”).

Something that the codex says is that there is, in fact, an Ardat-Yakshi spectrum, and there are far more Ardat-Yakshi in the galaxy than just Samara’s daughters. (“Contrary to popular belief, Ardat-Yakshi are neither extremely rare (around one per cent of asari dwell on the AY spectrum), nor are they all murderers.”)

An interesting theory I’ve heard is that Samara herself is on the Ardat-Yakshi spectrum, even though she doesn’t exhibit the symptom which would label her an Ardat-Yakshi outright (killing her mind-melding partners) and she’s obviously not sterile. Although she doesn’t exhibit the main symptom of the disorder, her Reave ability (which shorts out an enemy’s nervous system and increases her health) is remarkably similar to another AY characteristic (an Ardat-Yakshi being made stronger by shorting out their victim’s nervous system), and the fact that the Ardat-Yakshi syndrome prevents the sufferer from developing the capability for empathy would explain how easily Samara is able to follow the black-and-white justicar code to the letter (she’s not a complete psychopath, but a stunted sense of empathy would make the transition from normal mom to knight templar seem considerably less dramatic to her; it could be very likely that her beliefs before becoming a justicar were not all that different from the beliefs she holds during the game). It would explain how Samara managed to have three Ardat-Yakshi children; she had an increased risk of passing on the disorder and got really unlucky in the genetic lottery.
